Beebe Medical Center performs more than 600 catheterizations annually in its cardiac catheterization laboratory.
A cardiologist, assisted by a specialized staff, performs the procedure by inserting a thin plastic tube (catheter) into the arm or leg. The catheter is then advanced to the heart or coronary arteries. The test can measure blood pressure within the heart and how much oxygen is in the blood. It also can obtain information about the pumping ability of the heart muscle.
CARDIAC REHABILITATION
Beebe Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is the
first in the Delaware to receive certification through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). During the certification process, a national board conducts reviews and determines whether essential requirements for standards of care are met. Beebe Medical Center’s cardiac rehabilitation program is located in the Hastings HeartCare Center at the hospital’s main campus. Cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to limit the physiological and psychological effects of cardiac illness, reduce the risk for sudden death or relapse, control cardiac symptoms, stabilize and/or improve the patient’s condition, and enhance the patient’s quality of life.
