In 2004, Dale Clifton was being supportive of his brother, who was fighting throat cancer. Dale soon found out he, too, had cancer, testicular cancer. “I felt the worst for my mother,” he says. “My father had died of prostate cancer.”

But Dale says that he never let it get him down. “You’ve got to have a positive attitude.”

Both he and his brother are doing well, he says, adding that he was lucky because his was caught early. Dale, a marine historian, continues to focus on what is important in his life—his family, and his love of marine archeology. Dale is the owner/director of Discoversea Shipwreck Museum in Fenwick Island. He has dived for years and has collected artifacts from many different shipwrecks, now displayed at his museum and others around the world.

“I love the sea and I love shipwrecks because of what we can learn from them, of what we learn from our forefathers,” he says.
