Gilbert Laureigh, 71, learned he might have prostate cancer when he was getting his normal checkup for his heart. "I go every four months," he says. His "numbers were high," so more tests were done. His prostate cancer was in an early stage. "These people who don’t go to doctors," he scoffs, "they should get their check-ups."
Mr. Laureigh says he was "seeded," referring to the brachytherapy procedure in which radioactive “seeds” are inserted into the prostate. "I'm feeling great and everything looks good."
A retired mechanical engineer, Mr. Laureigh describes himself as a "good Catholic boy." He is active in his church, St. Edmunds in Rehoboth Beach, and is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
"I built the deck around the house this past spring," he says, "and now I’m back cleaning the house for my wife, Joan."
