In 2004, back pain sent Richard Marks to the doctor. He didn’t expect the MRI to reveal a serious cancer. But that is what it was, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and even worse, it had reached stage 4.
“People at Beebe brought me back. I can’t say enough about them,” he says, pointing out that after the treatments and the surgeries, he went into remission.
These days, he goes golfing as often as he can, whether at Bear Trap Dunes, where he works as a part-time starter, or at the other courses in the area. Richard, or Dick as he is known, took up golf when he retired 10 years ago to the area after serving in the military. He became hooked.
“There’s a great group of people out at Bear Trap,” he says. Dick also runs three miles, three times a week. No, he doesn’t enter races. “At 69, I’m just happy to be able to run three miles,” he says.
