Cancer ruined Todd Reilly’s ability to be a long-distance tractor-trailer driver due to the neuropathy caused by the chemo treatment; but it couldn’t take away his spirit. The 39-year-old father of two teenagers says it was a tough road to battle Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He even had a stem cell transplant. But remission opened up some positive doors for him. He was able to get more involved in the Blades Volunteer Fire Company. “I drive the fire truck,” says Todd, who lives in Seaford. “I believe it is important to help people. And being a member of the fire company is being part of a bigger family.”
Todd recalls that when he was going through his treatments and was so sick, members of the fire company brought food, toys, and gifts for the family at Christmastime, making the holiday a special one. “What a difference it made for our family,” he says, “half the battle is staying strong in your own mind.”
“And the nurses at Tunnell were fantastic. Thanks to all the nurses, doctors, family and friends for all of your hard work and support.”
