Ellendale native Donald Webb likes to help people. When he wasn’t operating heavy equipment for Delaware Department of Transportation, he was driving a truck for the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company. When his wife became ill and was confined to a wheelchair, he took care of her too. Then, in 2004, he was diagnosed with colon cancer, and treatments began. “It was hard,” he says. “I had four surgeries. But I can’t say enough about the people at the Cancer Center. I didn’t want for anything.” Donald says the experience was hard on his wife. But luckily, their oldest daughter, Crystal McGee, lives next door and was able to care for both of them.

Today, Donald, who is in remission, says he’s back to his old self. While he is retired, he still drives the truck for the fire company, rides his motorcycle, and does lots of yard work. He takes care of his wife, and he hunts and enjoys barbecuing.

“I’ve beaten it. So far,” he says.
