Ray Wilson, when asked about his grandson’s swim, said: “I sure was proud of him. I was concerned at first. That’s a big body of water.”

Rehoboth Beach native Ray Wilson has nothing but pride for his grandson Paul Timmons, a personal trainer and owner of The Firm Fitness Center, a local business. “He trains all the time,” Mr. Wilson says. “He knows all about the body.” Paul, and his mother, Donna Miller, of Wilmington, were supportive of Mr. Wilson when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Once he went into remission, Paul just had to do something for his grandfather, and for the Tunnell Cancer Center, where he was treated.

On July 17, Paul raised more than $10,000 for Tunnell Cancer Center by becoming the first person to swim solo across the Delaware Bay from Cape May to Cape Henlopen. The 15-mile swim took 7 hours and 14 minutes.

Paul says: “I was honored to have the new Tunnell Cancer Center be the beneficiary for this swim. My grandfather is doing very well, and I have the cancer team at Beebe to thank for that. This is the very least I could do.”
