Established in 1990, Beebe Medical Center’s Comprehensive Vascular Program boasts a fully accredited Vascular Lab,
an interventional radiology program, and a highly skilled
surgical staff.
Most of the patients at the Center are treated for atherosclerosis, which is also called hardening of the arteries. Atherosclerosis
is caused when deposits of plaque in the arteries constrict or completely block the blood flow, depriving the body of oxygen and nutrients. Plaque may even break off and create a dangerous embolism. Atherosclerosis may cause damage to artery walls, stretching or rupturing them, causing a life-threatening aneurysm. Tests performed at Beebe’s lab help detect vascular disease.
Symptoms of vascular disease:
- Temporary weakness in an arm or leg.
- Brief blurring or loss of vision in one eye.
- A moment of numbness in an extremity or the face.
- Difficulty speaking or forming words.
- Momentary dizziness or loss of consciousness.
- Pain in the calf or thigh after walking a short distance.
- Changes in skin color, or foot sores that don’t heal.
