Opportunities abound at Beebe Medical Center for those who wish to get involved with volunteerism. We currently have over 250 active volunteers, including Volunteer Services and the Beebe Medical Center Auxiliary. Our volunteers help in areas of patient care and non-patient care such as clerical assistance, mail delivery, deli, and fund-raising through the Auxiliary. During
the summer, students over the age of 14 assist in the Student Summer program. We also offer the Business, Industry and Education (BIE) program for high school students who earn
credit toward graduation for time spent volunteering.
Beebe volunteers contribute an average of 35,000 hours performing various roles at the hospital in Lewes and at satellite centers throughout the county. To hear the volunteers explain their roles, they feel the greatest rewards go to themselves.
Jane Forgie, a retired school nurse from Wilmington, contributes as many as 450 volunteer hours each year in Beebe Medical Center’s Sunshine Cafe. “I enjoy the people I work with and
our patrons. It’s a great staff and Beebe has a great atmosphere,” Mrs. Forgie explains.
