The Fourteenth Annual Conference by the Bay, a daylong educational seminar for nurses sponsored by Beebe Medical Center School of Nursing, will take place Friday, April 28, at the Rusty Rudder Bay Center in Dewey Beach.
The subjects to be focused on this year are: diabetes, magnet nursing, skin manifestations of disease, summertime safety, including an overview of neck and spinal injuries, and post-op care of the cardiac surgery patient. The day will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m.
Tina Trout, Diabetes Educator for the Beebe Medical Center Wound Care Services/Diabetes Management, will be the first speaker and will discuss new trends in diabetes care.
Norine Watson, RN, MSN, CNA, BC, Director of Nursing Excellence at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children of Nemours, will speak about magnet nursing.
Dr. Scott Olewiler, who specializes in Infectious Diseases at Beebe Medical Center, has entitled his presentation "Rashes, Holes, Lumps and Bumps: Skin Manifestations of Diseases."
Jennifer Whaley, RN, ADN, CCRN, Trauma Coordinator for Beebe Medical Center, will talk about Summer Safety: Beach, Bikes and Burns.
Kristen Koechert, RN, BSN, CCRN, Staff Development Specialist for Cardiovascular Surgery at Christiana Care Health System, will talk about caring for patients after they have undergone heart surgery.
The conference provides nursing professionals in the Mid-Atlantic region in all disciplines of care with updates on nursing for 2006. Beebe Medical Center will award participants with a certificate for 6.9 contact hours at the completion of the program. Beebe is an approved provider of Nursing Continuing Education by the Delaware Nurses' Association, which is accredited as an approver for Continuing education in Nursing by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center on Accreditation.
The cost of the conference is $85 for general registration, $45 for Beebe Medical Center employees and retirees, and $35 for full-time basic nursing students. Registration must be completed by April 15. Checks are to be made payable to Beebe School of Nursing. There will be a late registration fee of $10. The school is located behind and adjacent to the main campus of the Beebe Medical Center at 424 Savannah Road in Lewes.
