The Beebe School of Nursing recently obtained a $500,000 grant from the Bond Bill toward its $3.5 million project to expand its facilities and improve nursing education opportunities in Delaware. The School thanks Senator Gary Simpson, member of the Senate Bond Bill Committee, and State Representative George Carey, vice-chairman of the House of Representatives Infrastructure Committee, who both led the recent effort to obtain the funding.
The School is also appreciative of Congressman Michael Castle, who was able to get $273,000 in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development earlier this year to pay for the design work. Beebe representatives recently met with Senators Tom Carper and Joseph Biden to request additional support.
The School is planning its expansion to accommodate the number of qualified students who are interested in pursuing a nursing career. More than 60 qualified candidates applied for admission to the Beebe School of Nursing in 2004, however, the school could only admit 30 due to facility constraints. Of the 26 graduates in the School’s 2004 class, 25 are working in Delaware. The expansion would add classrooms and laboratory space, and enable the School to double its admission. |
