Beebe Medical Center Names Michael Wilgus to the Board

12/19/07

Beebe Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Wilgus to its Board of Directors.

"We are fortunate to welcome Mr. Wilgus to our Board," said Jan McCarty, Chair of the Beebe Medical Center Board of Directors. "His strong leadership experience in the Sussex County economy, as well as his understanding of the needs of those who visit and who live in coastal Delaware, will bring additional expertise to our board as we meet the healthcare demands of the growing communities that we serve."

Mr. Wilgus, a third-generation Bethany Beach native, is president, broker and co-owner of Wilgus Associates, Inc., a full-service, real estate, insurance and property management company with offices in Bethany Beach, Georgetown and Lewes. As a life-long local resident and business owner, he has been committed to the quality of Delaware's coastal communities. He has served as president of both the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce and the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, of which he has been an active member for 25 years. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Friends of the South Coastal Library, and of the Ocean View Church of Christ.

Mr. Wilgus' roots reach deep into Sussex County. He graduated from Indian River High School and went on to study business at the University of Delaware, from which he graduated in 1981. After graduation, he joined Wilgus Associates, a company his grandfather William F. Wilgus, Jr., founded in 1945 as Wilgus Insurance. In 1964, Michael Wilgus' father Gerald W. Wilgus joined his father William F. Wilgus, and started the real estate side of the business. In 1984, Michael's brother David Wilgus also joined the company. Today, Michael overseas the real estate division and David manages the insurance department of Wilgus Associates.

Michael Wilgus is married to Sussex County native Sandra Murray Wilgus. They have three daughters: Kylie, who graduated from Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington and who represents the fourth-generation Wilgus to work in the family business; Jenna, who is studying marine biology at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, FL, and Olivia, who is in the 8th grade at Worcester Preparatory School in Berlin, MD.

"I very much look forward to being an active participant on the Beebe Medical Center Board of Directors," Mr. Wilgus said. "Quality healthcare is always an important part of a community. And now, as the small towns in the south coastal area have dramatically increased their sizes and their populations, healthcare concerns have risen to the forefront of issues that must be tackled. I will now be able to join those on the Board who will be looking at how to improve healthcare services in this growing area, as well as how to improve and maintain a high quality of healthcare services to all the communities that Beebe serves."
